Large multiple industry interests are watering down the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) bill through intense lobbying. One of the most recent amendments to the bill |
We envision a thriving residential real estate marketplace, in which:
• Consumers have the tools they need to easily select and negotiate with service providers without manipulation by brokers or anyone else in a position to influence their decisions.
• Checks and balances restore integrity and consumer confidence in the residential transaction process.
• Anti-competitive practices are abolished, and new laws are enacted that forbid these practices.
• The “bond of fidelity” is reinstated with real estate service providers who pledge loyalty to their clients, and conflicts of interest are not tolerated…disclosed or otherwise.
• A national database of dedicated professionals commit to a higher level of conflict-free service and ethical standards, and are willing to incur serious penalties for failure to act in their clients’ best interest.
While it certainly took a lot of “backroom deals” to get us to the sad shape our economy is in today, a significant share of the blame for the current housing crisis rests with our current real estate industry. This industry has profited handsomely by helping to create the conditions that have caused over-inflation in housing prices and poor loan practices. CAARE’s vision is to capitalize on the emerging “renaissance” that is taking place across our nation, and bring lasting change to an industry that for too long, has taken its profits by exploiting consumers’ vulnerabilities instead of protecting them.
